Holiday (high)lights walking route

The city streets of Groningen gleam in the dark nights of December with special lighting designs, but there’s always a few extra special spots that are, well, a little extra – in a good way. City Central has put together a walking/cycling/however-you -get-around route of the brightest spots (or the most "heftig", depending on how you look at it) throughout Groningen: a holiday (high)lights tour.

Art route "off the beaten art'

This city walking tour will lead you through the less explored side of Groningen. We’ll venture off the beaten path and discover off the beaten art: works of art that you may have walked past (or under) hundreds of times without ever realizing their significance. This art route is the perfect mix of the city’s beauty and it rougher edges.

Travel through time at Groningen’s medieval churches

Church bells ringing out on a frosty day are one of the signature sounds of Christmas in Groningen. City Central recommends taking a trip through time this holiday season by visiting any of the nearly 100 medieval churches and synagogues in the province, and admiring some of the world’s most beautiful Baroque organs right here in Groningen, the “organ garden” of Europe.

Order dinner from a local restaurant

Many local restaurants offer take-out or deliver at the moment. Set the table, light some candles and order a romantic dinner at home. In the mood for something else? No problem! You can find an overview of restaurants at Horeca Groningen. Just select if you prefer take-out or delivery, where you live and what kind of cuisine you would like this evening. The website will show you which restaurants match your search best.
