Welcome Walks: Discover your neighborhood
Welcome Walks are back! For two weekends in September, City Central and GroningenLife! will give in-person guided neighborhood tours for new international students.
After a two year hiatus, City Central’s guided Welcome Walks are back. On 11 & 12 and 18 & 19 September, two tour guides from GroningenLife! will lead new internationals students through four of Groningen’s biggest student neighborhoods: the Oosterpoort, Ebbingekwartier/Binnenstad, Paddepoel, and Selwerd.
Our Welcome Walks, which will start at SSH student housing in the featured neighborhoods, zoom in on the areas beyond the city center and share ways for newcomers to get involved and find the hidden gems that make their corner of the city unique, as well as covering the day-to-day essentials, such as locations for waste disposal and doctor’s offices.
City Central’s staff personally creates each neighbourhood guide based on our own favourite spots, as well as making sure to cover the essentials that we wish we’d known about back when we were new international residents ourselves.
The tours were first held back in the autumn of 2019 as a way for international students to learn about all the practical information and fun activities in their new neighbourhoods. Now that we can safely offer the in-person tours once more, participants will have the added benefit of a personal answer and question session with an international tour guide from GroningenLife! – and the guided tours are also a wonderful way to get to meet other newcomers from abroad in your neighborhood.
