Sarèl de Jong, 21, born and bred in Groningen, was a fanatic footballer until at 16 years old she picked up kickboxing. And she’s never looked back. Since then she’s unstoppable. Last November, only four years after she started, she won her second world title. She’s also European champion and already been nominated as Athlete of the Year by the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations.
Sarèl trains twice a day, six days a week, and splits her time between Groningen and Thailand where she does special training camps. As her coach Denis van Gliessen says: “Ja, da’s wel een nuchtere hoor” (Yup, that one’s no-nonsense).
No-nonsense, dedicated, and great at what she does. That’s the Groningen way.
