Markets
Besides shops, Groningen also has some nice markets for you to discover. Shopping at one of the markets does not only offer you a lot of great (local) products, it is also very ‘gezellig’ as we say in Dutch. People often have a chat with each other, have a snack together at one of the stands and everybody is in a good mood. Have a look below to see when and where you can find the markets.
Day & time | Location | What to expect?
Tuesday, Friday 09:00 - 17:00 | Grote Markt, Vismarkt and A-Kerkhof | One these days you can find the biggest market, with approximately 180 stands. A real hotspot to visit in Groningen and a great place to do some shopping.
Wednesday 09:00 - 17:00 | Vismarkt and A-Kerkhof | This market is a bit smaller than the one on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, but still very nice to visit. Together with the shops, the market creates a very good atmosphere in the city centre.
Thursday 10:00 - 18:00 | Grote Markt | This is the smallest market, but very useful if you are looking to buy groceries, fabrics or clothing.
First Sunday of the month 12:00 - 17:00 | Vismarkt | Once a month you can also visit the market on Sunday. This market has various stands, of which some sell organic products.
Every second Saturday of the month 10:00 - 16:00 | Harmonieplein | This market is the Ommelandermarket. This market is a great place to get familiar with Groningen, since the stands only sells local products. A must see when you are in Groningen on the second Saturday of the month! |
