In the Netherlands Easter is celebrated on two days. This year, on the 5th and 6th of April. In the city and province different activities are organised. Below you can read what you could be doing!
Brunch
An extensive easter brunch is an important part of the Dutch easter celebrations. You can organise this yourself at home, with delicious goods from the store. Or you can go to one of the restaurants which are organising an Easter brunch. See if your favorite place organises one or get some inspiration from the following list:
Egg hunt
During Easter, it is common for kids to go to organised Egg hunts or have one organised by their family at home. If you don’t have kids and/or don’t want to organise a hunt yourself, you can go to the GPS Easter egg hunt at the Ennemaborg country estate. The Easter eggs are so well hidden that you need to use GPS to find them. For adults you have to pay a small fee of 5 euros to be able to take part. The hunt is around 4 kilometres long and takes place on the 6th of April from 10:30 until 12:30. You can of course also organise your own hunt with friends or family in a park with chocolate easter eggs from the store.
Markets
The last Friday before Easter there is an annual flower fair organised in the city centre. The fair is quite large and covers de Oude Ebbingestraat, de Grote Markt, de Nieuwe Markt and het A-Kerkhof. A good opportunity to have your Easter brunch table decorated with flowers.
If you are more into antiques or clothing, you can also visit the Zeldzaam Mooi Markt on the 6th of April, at the Vismarkt. You can stroll around on your free day and find some treasures. Or you can go to the Suikermarkt for vintage shopping with a festival vibe. This market is organised at the Suikerterrein on the 5th of April.
Opening hours
During Easter not every store is opened at the times you are used to. Since it’s a holiday most stores are closed on the first day of Easter (5th of april). Have a look online if the place you want to go to is opened, before you stand in front of a locked door. On the second day of Easter (6th of April), most stores are open again but still be careful and check before you go outside!
