Autumn is here! A time of year with all kinds of fun in Groningen! We’re going to show you some of our favorite activities.
Walking
Autumn is the season that paints nature a warmer colour, makes the evenings a little longer and the days a little colder. Some of the nicest autumn days are wonderful to take a stroll around the city or a walk outdoors as the final warm rays of the sun illuminate everything. Groningen has so much to offer! Walk the art route in the city centre of Groningen or another street art inspired route through the Oosterparkwijk. The Oosterparkwijk shows the lovely transition from the many greens into beautiful yellows, oranges, browns and reds!
There are even more options for great walks outside of Groningen. Visit Groningen has listed some walks to be able to soak up the autumn air and colours. Don’t want to walk alone or have no enthusiasts around you? IWCN plans walks every Sunday throughout the year. All you need is to sign up and see where the walk is organised this time.
Board games
Autumn weather isn’t always the most inviting when you find yourself outside, but that doesn’t mean you have sit in boredom inside the house. Board games are ideal for rainy autumn weather and if you don’t have anyone to play with, you can go to one of the places in Groningen that organises board game nights. IWCN, Purperen Draak and Rabenhaupt do this, or go to Forum for a game of Dungeons and Dragons. At USVA they will also organise a spooky pub quiz for the enthusiasts. Check their schedules to see when their (board)game evenings take place!
Be creative
Autumn is the season of hobbies, a time to find your creative side. Go paint, draw, knit or model clay, take autumn as your inspiration! You could even go as far as to pick up leaves, chestnuts, sticks, acorns and create with nature herself. Mould something with them, stick them onto your creation or make little home decor with them. If you scour pinterest you will always find all kinds of inspiration for natural autumn creations. If you do not know how to craft or have no inspiration at all, you can go craft pumpkins at USVA or join a workshop at Vrijdag, Puck or Artsy Avenue.
Go to fairs & markets
Is there nothing more cozy than strolling around a fun market fair, in your warm coat with occasional rays of sunshine warming up your face? Luckily Groningen has plenty of options to experience this! The Suikermarkt and Zeldzaam Mooi Markt are both taking place in the upcoming months and will give you the opportunity to look for vintage items, buy unique handmade pieces and enjoy local food. A great way to spend your autumn Sunday!
