City living

Spring is here! Not sure how you can enjoy it to the fullest? Here are some of our favorite activities:

Tulips

Spring is known for its way of making nature bloom again. There are different ways to enjoy this blooming season. You can, for example, visit the tulipfields. On the 18th of April, you can walk, bike, or drive a planned route through the tulip fields. Tickets can be found on this website. Of course you can also search for tulips by driving through the province of Groningen. Just be aware that you do not enter the fields without permission of a farmer.

Tulip locations:

Flower market

In the city center there is an annual flower market on the last Friday before Easter, ‘de bloemenjaarmarkt’. There are all kinds of flowers and plants for sale, for nice prices. The market is quite big, spread over de Oude Ebbingestraat, de Grote Markt, de Nieuwe Markt and het A-Kerkhof. You can stroll around and soak up the green vibes or go and buy plants to make your home springproof. This year's edition is on the 3rd of April.

Easter

In the Netherlands, Easter is celebrated on two days: the first and second day of Easter. This year, Easter takes place on the 5th and 6th of April. People celebrate Easter differently, but it is very common in the Netherlands to have an extensive brunch with family or friends and do an Easter egg hunt. There are also different activities organised on these days, find them in our Easter article!

Picnics

Not only do the parks turn green in spring, they also fill up with groups of people who want to enjoy the sun and green together during a picnic. We have listed a few of the nicest parks for you to go to.

Walks

You can go on a great walk along the beautiful green spots in Groningen, which are filled with flowers during spring. Think about the J.C. Kaptynlaan in the Korrewegwijk, where the blossom trees will fill the streets with a great amount of pink.

Or the walk along the Groninger Singels with the art route, where many crocuses and daffodils are creating a sea of spring colors.

Running

You can walk along some great spots during spring, but you can run as well! Running you can do by yourself or in a groupsetting. Groningen has runningclubs, who meet up mostly on Sundays. Some go for only a run, others even do breakfast, brunch or lunch together. A social and fun way of getting your exercise and seeing Groningen blooming.
